As we communicated back in early April, Little League International recommended the suspension of all league activities through today, May 11, in light of the ongoing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.
As we hit that milestone, unfortunately little has changed in our region. Little League International has advised that leagues follow local, state, and regional guidance while making the decision to formally cancel all Little League World Series events including regional tournaments. Pennsylvania has made the decision to cancel all state and regional tournaments as well.
We received clear guidance from the state of Pennsylvania on April 24 that youth sports are not permitted in the state until a county has been moved to "Green" status. As you are all aware, our county remains in "Red" status through at least June 4.
So, we continue to monitor the situation and discuss our options while being completely reliant on state and local government. OUR GOAL REMAINS TO BE ABLE TO OFFER A LEAGUE-WIDE SEASON AS SOON AS WE ARE ABLE—potentially in July or August; or to conduct a full regular season in the fall. Again, we will follow the guidance of state and local leadership and health officials.
We have worked through a detailed plan to resume activities, including plans to appoint a COVID-19 safety officer to handle our safety approach to a potential resumption of activities. These would include things like a sufficient amount of hand sanitizer/washing stations at fields, closure of food-related activities like our concession stands, etc.
If you have requested a refund (per the details in our previous communication) we appreciate your patience. To date, we've received requests for about 80 refunds, and the work to do so is very manual so we are processing all of those but it is taking some time. Those that have agreed to donate all or a portion of their registration fees if the season is ultimately canceled - thank you. For everyone else, we appreciate your patience and support through these unprecedented times. Please reach out if you have any questions at all regarding registration.
Stay safe, and hope to see you on the fields at some point this summer.
